Developed to showcase single vineyard and regional wines, Collaboration reflects the relationship between winemaker and vineyard, expressing a sense of place. Marananga Barossa Valley Shiraz is one such wine.

The hamlet of Marananga lies very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor – slightly to the north and west, where warm dry conditions and rich red soils provide the backbone to some of the region’s best known wines.  This wine delivers a contemporary Shiraz conceived from the ancient soils of this special place, Marananga.

Our intention was to produce a wine style opulent and approachable as a young wine. A full bodied Shiraz echoing the Barossa signature of concentrated fruit. Lifted aromatics of blueberry, chamomile, violets, and pepper give way to a well-structured full bodied palate, fruit driven with a persistent finish.

Description

The Shiraz vineyards at Maranagna intended for this blend are picked early whilst encouraging opulent flavour accumulation. 30% of the fruit is fermented as whole bunch in open top fermenters. Oak maturation occurs for 12 month in only puncheons and hogsheads with 20% new French oak.

The wines produced from the vintage of 2014 are excellent. The weather conditions during spring and early summer were dry and above average heat degree-days regulated shoot growth and berry development. By mid February and well into veraison, soil moisture levels were extremely low but a record-breaking rain event replenished the soils. The weather conditions that followed were ideal. ‘Balanced’ probably best describes most wines from the harvest this year.
